There really may be some truth to the phrase, “if you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” The good news is that since you’re in charge of your direct sales business, you get to control when you’re actively working, and where you put your efforts. Attending trainings (live or virtual), consistent follow-up, connecting and posting are all important tasks, and we have a suggested formula for success:
- Plan.
- Prioritize.
- Power through.
Plan.
Take a look at the week ahead and schedule an appointment with yourself for any trainings or calls taking place. This is your time to learn, connect, grow, be inspired, and inspire others. We love positive peer pressure! But more accurately, we love community knowledge sharing and the exchange of wins, strategies, and success stories. Plus, when new products launch or more features to the website have been added, you’ll be among the first to know!
Block out some time you know you’ll have to focus on other business building tasks. You don’t have to get bogged down with the details here; just reserve some time that’s set aside specifically for your business.
Prioritize.
Here’s where we can get a little more granular. Whether full-time, part-time, or even casual, prioritizing where and how you spend your time before you spend it will help set you up for success.
If you’re a list person, make a list of the most important tasks that need attention. This can include everything from goal setting to follow-up calls. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, start with your income-producing activities first, and worry less about the “window dressing” tasks like designing fancy business cards. Start with the things you like least to get them out of the way. Now your action is creating momentum which is what leads to great results!
Power Through.
Now it’s time to do it. This consistency and follow-through all contribute to your success. If you want to feel productive and accomplished at the end of the day, do your best to make the most of this time with the right mindset and environment.
TIP
Set a timer for blocks of time to put your head down and work. You can research productivity techniques like the Pomodoro Technique for details. Such techniques require focus and a time commitment. The result is often more productivity in less time. The takeaway here is to be intentional with your time and to eliminate distractions so you’re free to work and grow in the areas that most impact your business.
With practice and consistency, you’ll be clear on where and how to put your focus and you’ll be taking action every day with a plan!
